ssWe are an environmental organization that exists to minimize human impact on land and aquatic ecosystems. We believe in change, education, and action.

As we all know there is a strong need for all of us to start being more environmentally conscious about how we live our daily lives and the impact we have on our planet.  Sadly, there are still many places in the world where environmental education is not available to students or available to people on a regular basis.  Without environmental education people have no way of knowing the negative footprints they could be leaving on the environment or sustainable solutions to minimize these impacts. This is why we focus on providing the tools and education, individuals and communities need to be environmental leaders, activists and participants.

Help us be a part of the solution:

NEWS FLASH Oct. 29, 2011

On Oct. 12, Sustainable Smiles was invited to present at the Pull Together Now Event at the University of Montana. Our presentation and discussion covered Climate Proofing Aquatic Ecosystems: the need for environmental education, collaborations, new thinking, and community empowerment. Our local Missoula nonprofit partner, Seedlings of Change, and newly formed organization, Pull Together Now, organized this event which brought guest speakers from Sweden, Canada, and Thailand to talk about global initiatives and sustainable practices. Community-based Eco-Tourism Development Project, Cambodia
Sustainable Smiles will be working with Wetland Alliance's local partner Cambodia Rural Development Team (CRDT) on product development for Eco-tourism and home stay programs in Kratie province during August & September.
We will be working on a remote Island on the Mekong River to help three communities improve their eco-tourism products and services while also suggesting opportunities for greater engagement of schools and students in the community through awareness creation and education programs.  The Wetland Alliance will be providing funding for us to initiate this program and we are looking forward to our collaboration together with CRDT.

Start!Now program in Austria
Next month, in partnership with Vossen and Leiner, we will be launching our Start! Now program in Austria.  We will be inviting groups of students from different schools in Austria to participate in a Sustainability Video Contest.   Students will have to create their own video on "What is Sustainability".  With our guidance students will compete for an all-expense paid environmental trip to Montana, US where they will get to learn about the land, people, and concept of sustainability in another part of the world. Through our partnership with Vossen we hope to involve others in promoting environmental education for youth, ‘Our Leaders of Tomorrow’.

After nearly 4 months of planning, our first groups of S.A.P. students in Phuket, Thailand have implemented their environmental project with funding from Seedlings of Change and Indigo Pearl Resort.  Our students felt it was important to focus their project on educating younger students on how they can help take care of the environment.  They organized an all day environmental education event at Muang Mai School to teach students age 10-12 about what they can do to protect the environment.  By designing 5 different stations and other activities including songs, dances, and games, our S.A.P students taught their younger generation about global warming, reducing consumption, buying sustainable products, recycling and plastics, making lifestyle changes, and much more.
